DAN BOLDMAN
ARITIST'S STATEMENT
My entire life has revolved around the land; scouting,
hiking, camping, hunting, biking and observing. I take great pride
in the fact that I can look at a landscape, no matter where in this
country, and almost sensually feel, in my mind, the texture of the
surface. I never tire or become calloused to the land, as it is constantly
changing with time and seasons. My reason for being an artist is quite
pure and simple: I love nature, and enjoy the difficult process of
capturing it on canvas and, most of all, sharing the results with
others.
I work in oils and on four to six paintings at once. By working on
multiple paintings I always have one that is dry enough to glaze and
rework. Each piece takes many sessions and at the beginning of each
session the painting is glazed first and then repainted. It is this
process of repeated glazing, along with years of color and light experimentation
that gives the paintings their luminosity.
Education
Dan Boldman was raised in Portsmouth, Ohio where his love of the landscape
began. He spent much of his youth exploring the hills and woods of
the Scioto River valley, and began to depict these landscapes with
paint. Dan received his BFA and MFA from the University of Cincinnati
in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has shown extensively throughout the
Midwest and East Coast. His work is included in numerous corporate
and private collections. Solo Shows
