| EDE ERICSON CARDELL ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My art is the work of my heart. It is the voice of my spirit and a testament to transformation, growth and the power of the human condition. My Soul Shards reflect the transformation of the human vessel. They are a representation of a moment in time or a journey through it - a transformative event perhaps when we are no longer what we were just a moment ago, but we have become someone new. There is a shadow, a shell, a shard left behind as a reminder of the transformation. We shed the old soul skin and the beautiful new skin underneath glistens in anticipation. The discarded Soul Shard becomes a thing of beauty all on its own, but just as a pot shard, always speaks of the vessel from which it came.
Ede Ericson Cardell finds the language of art a fundamental form of communication: “My art is my dictionary, my thesaurus, my way of claiming words and giving them form”. Creating is her spiritual journey. This journey has taken her down many paths but she finds sculpture the truest expression of her spirit and the best way to speak her truth. Each of my shard bronzes is one of a kind. I sculpt directly in wax and cast in the centuries old, lost wax method. I am especially fond of this method because of its vulnerability. If the casting is successful – it is meant to be. If something happens, the original is lost and I must start from the concept again. It’s a risk and a trust in the process. It is a magical fiery ritual each and every time one of my pieces is cast. FORMAL STUDIES SHOWINGS |
