| JOYCE DANT Joyce Dant has been a Southwestern landscape artist for 30 years. She holds a degree in Fine Art from Texas Tech University and has developed her unique style of painting in oils an acrylics through extensive painting trips and studies with various outstanding American landscape artists. She has been featured in articles in Southwest Art, Art of the West, and Inform Art. After many years of living and painting in the Phoenix area, Dant moved several years ago to Santa Fe. Big windows in her home studio face north toward the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The scenery of northern New Mexico provides a rich source of inspiration for Dant, who is drawn to rugged rock formations, canyons, water, and the play of sunlight and shadow across the textures and rich colors of the landscape. She also paints the ancient Indian ruins of the Southwest and detailed florals of cactus, hollyhock, and yucca blossom. Dant has hiked the Grand Canyon, rafted the Colorado River, and trekked on horseback to Keet Seel ruin in northern Arizona to photograph, to sketch, to experience these scenes. Frequent painting trips in New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona allow Dant to paint on location."I love plein air painting,", Joyce says, "The fresh air is invigorating; the colors are more subtle than any photograph can convey; the light is constantly changing; and I am capturing an impression of a moment. I want you to smell the earth and feel the breeze when you look at my paintings." EDUCATION RECENT EXHIBITIONS PUBLICATIONS
