KATHRYN FLINN

' The Protector'
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My
paper pieces have a wide variety of influences covering a broad range
of time, and inspired by many sources. Earlier inspiration came first
from books I was exposed to as a child, and then trips to museums at
a young age. The most influential people in my life have been a group
of painters from the Dallas area. Art history references can be drawn
mainly from turn of the century painters, whose work continues to shape
the art of the 21st century. I am an experimental painter and enjoy
changing subject matter, as well as mediums.
I like painting with acrylic paper on paper and texturing the surfaces
first with paint and color. I then carve images into the paint as I
begin the process. I work with acrylic paints & mediums on a variety
of surfaces including canvas & hand made paper. One of the main
motives for my painting is the peace of mind that the simple act of
making art creates.
